Commissioners
I am sure by now you are all aware of the issues I have brought to light with the Beaufort sewer system if you are not please visit my website www.thepollutedloon.com or talk to me about it personally. Without rehashing the issues I still would like to bring this issue up to this board. I fully understand that Beaufort has its own government body under its own jurisdiction. I do not have a lot of experience with government protocol, and I am not sure if this board has any influence in the affairs of the town of Beaufort. If it does, it seems now would be the time to excerpt that influence.
Although Beaufort is an entity of its own, many things taking place in Beaufort effects the rest of the county, especially the Downeast area. Some of these things are environmental protection, rate of development, social class prejudice and what appears to be an unwillingness to communicate with the citizens of this county. The next five years will be a crucial time for this area, more so the next two years. With the rate this county is developing primarily from the Grayden Paul Bridge and the Core Creek Bridge east, careful planning and cooperation is a must.
There are lots being cleared of trees, marsh, and older structures, demonstrating this growth. Animals are being displaced, and rivers and creeks are being compromised. This is evident by the ever increasing amount of dead animals on the road and shellfish area closures.
I respectfully and publicly request the members of this board take a proactive stance on the issue of waste water management to find a way to eliminate any waste water infiltration from municipal or private septic systems. In short; help me find a way to stop waste water from being pumped into estuaries and rivers by anyone, in any amount.
I realize this is a large request and I recognize many efforts have already been undertaken, nevertheless not enough is being done. However, I am asking this board to step up and go the extra mile. As a citizen with little knowledge or influence in the matters of state it is at times like this we need our leaders and representatives to lead and represent us.
I am not asking you to do this on your own I am more than willing to help. I will write letters, send emails, contact newspapers, T.V. stations, post information on my website, and or contact higher up government officials in an effort to show this boards eagerness to do what is truly best for the environment of this county.
I invite you to join in our blog at The Polluted Loon, contact me by email, snail mail, or telephone. I wish to thank you in advance for your assistance in the future and your time tonight.
